Shoulder Pain

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is the third most common complaint after lower back and neck pain to present to the doctors office. Shoulder pain may originate in the joint itself, or from many of the surrounding muscles, ligaments or tendons and can result in considerable pain and disability.

The shoulder is a complex joint and has the greatest range of motion of any joint in the body. In fact our shoulders are capable of moving in more than 16000 positions. Unfortunately in order to attain greater mobility the shoulder joint has to give up stability, so it’s no wonder that this part of the body can cause us so much grief.

Symptoms of shoulder pain may include:

  • ‘Catching’ sensation when raising the arm or reaching
  • Sharp pain when moving your arm
  • Weakness in your arm or grip
  • Throbbing and aching in shoulder whilst sleeping
  • Pain radiating down the arm
  • Pain that can radiate up into the collar bone and neck
  • Neck and shoulder stiffness

Some of the common causes of the shoulder pain are:

  • Rotator cuff Tendinopathy /Tendinosis
  • Impingement syndrome
  • Arthritis
  • Bursitis
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Instability
  • Fractures
  • Facet joint pain
